Sony says “Move!”

Posted on 11 March 2010 by ClassicMoments

Remember some time ago, Sony teased us with their mysterious “stick” with a “ball” attached on the tip of it?
Wow, that just sound wrong.

Anyways, just in time for Game Developers Conference 2010, Sony finally gave us the name of the stick with a ball. It’s “Move.” Sony’s Move controller.

Imagine handful of people in a meeting, getting paid with 6-figures, brainstorming for the Sony next ambitious project that can possibly be the next big thing for Sony, they came up with “Move.” Actually, it’s very basic and descriptive for its purpose. At least it wasn’t totally out of sync like many of Sony’s PS3 commercials.

For those of you who never heard of this device, it’s the Sony’s latest controller which PlayStation Eye (camera for PS3) recognizes its motion, interactive with PS software. In simple terms, it’s like Wii but instead of using a sensor bar, PS3 will use its optional camera and colored Move controllers.

One interesting fact about Move; the ball on the tip has 3 LEDs, which means it can change colors. It doesn’t just change to any colors though; the ball changes to the color that’s more recognizable to the PlayStation Eye, making sure the color stands out from rest of the objects in the room. Kudos to Kotaku for such explanation.

The exact price for US market hasn’t been confirmed, but many reports that the starter pack which contains a PlayStation Eye + A Move controller will be around and less than $100. Our guess is between $80~$99. You’ll probably be able to purchase them this fall of 2010.

PS3 sales go boom! – 1,000 percent increased

No wonder they looked so happy at PAX 2009.
With Sony’s new PS3 Slim + price cut, they’ve seen a 1,000% increase in sales so far.

According to gameindustry.biz, they have found that the uplift from week 36 on week 35 is plus 999%. Sony had a similar experience in sales increase with the PS2 Slim (week 44 for PS2) announcement, though it stopped at 310%.

Some people thought it was too late for Sony to be back in the race, but things look a bit different now.
