Secret of Mana for iPhone / iPod touch

Posted on 16 June 2010 by GillRider

This is gonna be one of those mini posts, but I just had to make this announcement. One of my favorite action RPGs of all time has made its way to the iPhone/iPod Touch market: Secret of Mana. Though the touch screen controls worry me a bit, this is still very very exciting. I know, the trailer isn’t much at all, but for fans, just the idea should be enough. Keep an eye out for this one!

Secret of Mana – 15 years later

Posted on 22 March 2009 by GillRider

I know that some of you might not consider Wii a hardcore gaming system, but whatever. Tell that to other 45 million+ of people.

My brother has a Wii, and since he’s re-playing GTA IV on the 360, now I’ve had full control of it for almost a week now. I recently downloaded a Nintendo classic off of the Wii site: Secret of Mana. Yup. After 15 years since the release, I decided to give it another go.

OH MY FREAKIN GOD. I LOVE this game!

Do you guys remember this!? I think I was about 9 or 10 when I first played it back in Japan. (Oh yeah, so I was born and raised in Japan. I moved to the states when I was twelve. Anyhoo…) I remember putting hours and hours into leveling up all of my weapons to the max and also searching for the ninth orb for every weapon in the Mana Fortress.

Oh man oh man.
15 years later, I’m still excited, still indulging in every bit of 16-bit ecstasy it provides. The boss music, the different sounds the weapons make when attacking enemies, charging up your weapons, leveling up, using magic, the whole experience was wonderful. I’m using the GC controller for now, but after playing this game, I’m seriously considering getting a classic controller. Neither the joystick nor the miniscule D-pad on the GC controller is really working for me. Thank you Square (pre Enix merging), and thank you Nintendo for letting me relive this great game and great experience.

When people say that the great games are timeless, you better believe it.
