Kakuro Mania – Sudoku’s sibling

Are you a fan of Sudoku? Are you looking for a new challenge? Then this might be the game for you.

Kakuro is a logic puzzle created by Nikoli, a Japanese Publisher who’s popularity and fame became prominent with another one of their logic puzzles: Sudoku.

The basics of Kakuro are very similar to Sudoku. You are given a grid, and you must insert a digit from 1 to 9 in each cell such that the sum of the numbers in each entry matches the clue associated with it, and that no digit is duplicated in any entry… Confused? The rules are basically the same as Sudoku, except that instead of the filling the row/column with numbers 1-9, the sum of these digits have to add up to a certain number. For those who are math savvy, Sudoku is more about permutations while Kakuro is more about combinations.

Here’s a features list for the game:

6 grid sizes, from 5 x 5 to 10 x 10
* 4 difficulty levels
* Pencil mark mode
* Powerful hints
* Undo & Redo last entry
* Convenient and intuitive single-screen user-interface
* Transparent auto-save feature
* Automatic check for duplicates and incorrect sums
* Ability to check filled cells against the solution

So all you math fans, or puzzle fans looking for a new challenge should definitely check this out. You can find out more info on their website. Kakuro Mania is available now at the App Store.

Black Friday Deal – Spooky Spirits: Puzzle Drop!!

Posted on 25 November 2009 by GillRider

We are back again with more Black Friday stuff! This time, its a game for the iPhone/iPod!

Spooky Spirits: Puzzle Drop!! will drop have a 50% price dop to $0.99, ₤0.59, and €0.79 respectively at the AppStore starting tomorrow, Thanksgiving Day.

For those not familiar with the game, check this trailer out:

So its basically your falling-block puzzle, with a slight twist. You rotate the colors and choose which color sets you drop, instead of manipulating them during or after they drop, allowing more of an opportunity to create chains and combos. Like any good puzzle game, this one also offers various modes:

• In the Panic Mode, players must clear each level by catching an appropriate amount of Spookies before the screen overfills.
• Puzzle Mode is a relaxed mode with no stress – players must outsmart the Spookies’ clever puzzles and beat them in their own game using only a limited number of blocks.
• Eternity Mode is a Tetris-inspired exhaust mode that just keeps going for as long as players can keep it at or reach the max-score of 9,999,999 points (that’s A LOT of Spookies to catch!).
