Space Wolves Lite version available for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted on 04 January 2011 by GillRider

What caught my attention about this game were the so-called testimonials about how this game is like Angry Birds. I’ll put some of them below, but basically from what we can tell, this game is a physics shooter game, where the player uses real world physics, like springs, ricochets, and sci-fi physics like anti-gravity beams and worm holes, to defeat Jazz-playing Space Wolves. Sounds interesting enough!

Some of the “testimonials”

“..Space Wolves. Sort of halfway between Cut the Rope and Angry Birds.” ~ forum review

“Bored with Angry Birds? Try Space Wolves.” ~ diyGamer.com

“A fun change of pace that’s clearly inspired by one of the App Store’s bestsellers, but Space Wolves can stand on its own two feet and isn’t just a clone. If you can’t wait for more from Rovio Mobile you might want to choose this one as a fun change of pace.” ~ 148apps.com

“the levels all have a cartoony style, and the wolves play jazz for you after every level. The music during the levels is great, and the sound effects are just as cartoony as the level art.” ~SlideToPlay.com

“It’s a nice little physics puzzler that has great potential.. If you like Angry Birds you might wanna check this one out.” ~ TheGameTrail.com

“Just super – The gameplay combines slingshot action with trick-shooting to make one of the freshest physics games on the AppStore. Art and animation are incredibly endearing, and the swinging soundtrack is well-implemented. Physics are perfect and just feel right. I can’t find any fault with what’s on offer… Highly recommended.” ***** ~ app store review

Samurai II: Vengeance available for $0.99 for 48 hours!

Posted on 20 December 2010 by GillRider

Samurai II: Vengeance is now available, for 48 hours, for $0.99!

For those not familiar with the game (I was one of them), is basically a hack-and-slash on the iPhone/iPad. Just take a look at the screenshots and you’ll get the idea. It looks pretty awesome.

The only concern I would have would be the controls, and how tight and user friendly they are. But hey, for $0.99, it’s definitely worth a try!

Samurai II: Vengeance features:
• Quick and gory battle sequences: hordes of on-screen enemies will fall to your devastating attacks.
• Intuitive virtual joystick ensures you’re slicing up baddies, not randomly swiping the screen.
• Avoid dangerous traps and solve puzzles – the combat never takes a back-seat to platforming.
• Between levels, gorgeous hand drawn comic panels tell the samurai’s tale.
• New score-attack survival mode lets players hone their swordplay skills.
• Apple Game Center support with leaderboards and achievements.
Samurai II: Vengeance is carving up the App Store, available for a limited time at a mere $0.99. This Universal App is compatible with iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 3G, and iPad.

Damian Filigree: The Book of Thoth for iPhone/iPod

Damian Filigree: The Book of Thoth for iPhone/iPod

Posted on 30 November 2010 by GillRider

We here at GamersRoute are all about innovative/creative gameplay. And Damian Filigree: The Book of Thoth apparently brings innovation to the puzzle genre.

It sounds like a  match three puzzler. The player is faced with a series of hieroblyphs etched into the wall. By matching three, the stone breaks, and the player is able to move forward and continue down the hallway.

The twist comes in as the game progresses; the player will be  forced to rotate entire sections of the puzzle to match the three hieroglyphics, but also rotate sections of the puzzle as well as the pressure of oncoming enemies. Furthermore, as the game progresses, the player obtains items and power-ups that can be used to overcome traps and enemies.

This game promises a gameplay that’s both easy to grasp and learn for casual gamers, but provides enough meat for hardcore gamers. Might be worth a look! Damian Filigree: The Book of Thoth is available now on the iPhone/iPod Touch

iRequiem for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted on 09 November 2010 by GillRider

We have some more old school gaming fun! Rapid Turtle Games brings iRequiem, a 2D horror-themed shooter that takes place in hell itself.

This looks like your typical ghoulish shooter, with your arsenal of weapons ranging from crossbows to grenade/rocket launchers, and magic weapons such as amulets, spells, etc.

Although the player is only able to control the protagonist, the game features a few twists to keep it interesting, including vehicles and the ability to control monsters as well.

In case you’re interested, the story goes like this:

“ Banished by this world and hunted by the evil, there is no place to hide for me. My days and nights were spent in the shadows hiding from both worlds, since I tasted the death and came back to live. The evil took my soul, but in return endowed me with a special gift – possession of dark powers. The unattractive appearance and the closeness with the evil power conspired against me, robbing me of everything valuable for this world. Bitter and alone, my desire to take vengeance on evil was stronger as time passed. I want to regain my soul and to return to my people. Let the revenge begin…”

Key Features
  • Campaign game mode – lead the main protagonist through five stages of detailed story driven game play
  • Survival game mode
  • 4+ hours of gameplay for Campaign mode; unlimited for Survival mode
  • 55 levels, 4 difficulty levels, great storyline

Use your voice to summon monsters in Voice Fantasy for iPhone/iPod Touch

Use your voice to summon monsters in Voice Fantasy for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted on 03 November 2010 by GillRider

Square Enix brings an interesting game to the iPhone/iPod Touch: Voice Fantasy.

The basics of the game is a RPG-style battler, where the player summons characters to battle for them, much like Pokemon, or Digimon. The catch is, you summon your character using the voice record function. Depending on the volume and pitch of the recorded voice, different characters with different jobs, abilities and personalities are summoned. Furthermore, the voice recordings you use can also be converted into a character voice and used during battle.

The game has three modes: “Single Match”, “Tag Match”, and “Demon King”. “Single Match” and “Tag Match” are one-on-one or two-on-two battles, respectively. “Demon King” allows the player to battle against monsters.

And apparently, characters from some of Square Enix’s classic titles will be making cameo appearances.

Voice Fantasy is available starting today.

Horror fans and trivia fans unite! This is THE trivia game I have been waiting for: Horror Star Quiz.

Well, actually there isn’t much to write or explain about here. The above sentence pretty much says it all: it’s a horror film trivia game! Awesome. Features:

  • With 100 unique questions over 20 levels, Horror Star Quiz will keep you entertained for hours.
  • Scary Igor hosts the game. Can you surprise him with your awesome knowledge?

Super Badminton 2010 on Apple App Store

Super Badminton 2010 on Apple App Store

Posted on 05 July 2010 by GillRider

One of my favorite sports to play, and I mean actually play, is badminton. Granted, its not the toughest sport of all, but it would be great to see the respect and treatment in the video game industry as other sports. Apparently Rolocule Games feels the same way: introducing Super Badminton 2010.

According to Rolocule Games, part of the issue about creating a badminton game is the physics involved with the shuttlecock. But with their proprietary game engine, Rolocule Games provides a realistic badminton experience on iPhone/iPod Touch. Players will be able to choose which shots to make using both touch and tilt controls.

The game comes with three modes: Quick Play, Exhibition, and Tournaments. Exhibition mode allows for the customization of the badminton match such as court, player, difficulty, etc. In tournament mode, players will enter tournaments based on balanced difficulty levels, and attempt to win as many trophies and display them in the trophy cabinet.

Super Badminton 2010 is available now on the App Store for $4.99. It requires the ios 3.0 software

Hexius for iPhone/iPod Touch

Hexius for iPhone/iPod Touch

Posted on 24 May 2010 by GillRider

Another week. Another puzzle game for the iPhone/iPod Touch. Usually I would insert a little comment here saying, “But wait! This one’s different!” But I’m not going to. Because the reason I’m writing about this puzzle game is not because of its ingenuity or revolutionary game design. It just looks like a lot of simple fun and addiction. That’s it. It’s Hexius.

At first glance, this might look like another knock off of Hexic. But it’s a little different. In fact, it’s simpler than that. You just have to tap on hexes with the same shape to make the disappear. And there you have it. Simple. The strategizing comes into play via bonus hexes you can create.

Depending on how you clear the hexes, you are awarded bonus hexes. For example, if you surround one or more hexes completely with cleared hexes, those they turn into “freeze” hexes, which then can be used to slow down the time. By meeting difference requirements in clearing hexes, you can create different bonus hexes. I think this is actually a great idea. This puts you in direct control of when and how to use bonuses, instead of waiting for them to randomly appear.

But the biggest draw, at least for me, is just simplicity and fast pace of the game. Because the basics is so simple, you can just go at as a casual gamer, just for fun, or give it time and energy to shoot for the highest scores. And speaking of high scores, Hexius is integrated with Facebook Platform, allowing players to login using their existing facebook account to enter weekly score challenges with friends as well as compare all-time high scores. It really looks like this game might be a great pick up for a broad audience just looking to kill time and have fun.

Features List:

• Time Attack Mode – connect matching hexagons as fast as possible, until time runs out – the faster you play, the higher the score multiplier goes!

• Level Challenge Mode – collect all the targets to move onto progressively harder levels. The faster you go, the more time is carried over to the next level – find out how far can you go before time runs out!
• Bonuses – make use of Bomb, Reveal, and Freeze bonuses to help maximize your score.
• Tutorials – hints and tips show you ways of creating bonuses and getting higher scores.
• Online score tables – see you friends all-time high scores, and enter weekly score challenges.
• Addictive gameplay – with simple to learn rules, Hexius will appeal to the casual player and puzzle lovers, whilst the subtle tactics required to get really high scores will intrigue the more advanced gamer.

Fun Gaming Facts

Mega Man is known as Rock Man in Japan. This was changed in America because 'rock' is well-known slang for crack cocaine, and the name stuck.
