Now you can experience the old-school style of single console multiplaying with your iPhone with Battle Blasters.

The game is very simple: shoot the other guy and don’t get shot. Battle Blasters is a one-on-one shooter/fighting game. Like most fighting games, the fun and variety comes in the unique characters rather than the story or the progressive element of the game. With a roster of six characters, each with a unique set of fighting styles, abilities, and special weapons, battle blaster looks to deliver some fun old-school gaming.

The coolest feature, at least for me, is the same console multiplayer. Online multiplaying is defintiely sweet. But it just doesn’t have the same feel of comraderie that getting together with your friends over one console did, back in the day. (of course, LAN parties bring the best of both worlds together). And another pretty cool feature, for all you social networking butterflies, are the leaderboards available on facebook, allowing you to brag your battle blasting skills to an even bigger audience!

But we never knew that it was being developed for Wii, PSP and iPhone / iPod touch!

Honestly, we don’t know how long your iPhone / iPod touch will last after couple of labs. We’ll check on it if we ever get a chance to get our hands dirty.

A handful of new names have been added to the list of influenza viruses recently that it’s become stressful just to be with someone who sneezes or has a runny nose. Yeah, viruses suck. Wish we could just shoot ‘em all down. And in the wonderful world of App Store (where else, right?), you can. Introducing, BloodStream Raiders.

The player takes control of a white blood cell and enters different organs of the human body, fighting the influenza virus. And while fighting viruses, the player will also witness cholesterol, red blood cells, platelets, bacteria, stronger mutations of the virus, as well as antivirals. To put it simply, we’re shooting down everything that can be harmful to our body. Educational, yeah?

Before we began the reviewing process, we noticed that the player can change the graphics settings between low and high, to either sweetening your eyes or saving battery. We enjoyed the colorful backgrounds in the high visual mode, but also had no problems whatsoever on lower visual mode. Every level is colorful and vivid.

The controls however are a mixed bag. We all know the controller limitations that any mobile device has, and it’s even more limited with the iPhone and iPod touch. The directional controls and shooting has to be done all on the touch screen, using virtual analog sticks. If you’re a gamer who’s already accustomed to the virtual analog sticks, you’ll have no problems at all. But if you’re a casual gamers who’s not too keen on spending time to master the control, it can turn you off a bit. It’s a shoot’em-up genre, so we expected the challenge, and found no huge problems that discouraged us to play. Well, maybe better background music and a variety of sound effects might help, but this is a shoot’em-up  App we’re talking about, and for that it does what it should do.

And for the leaderboard and trophy/achievement freaks, BloodStream Raiders uses the AGON system which has online leaderboards, award system, friends list, Facebook / Twitter integrations and more. A very nice touch for gamers who enjoy multiplayer and online interactivity.

So, will this title kill your time when you have to? Yes, but it’s probably better appreciated by shoot’em-up fans. For $2.99 it’s not a bad investment, but BloodStream Raiders can be just more than a simple ‘meh’ fun that casual gamers are looking for. It’s a shooter that challenges you enough to make you spend a good amount of your iPhone/iPod touch battery power.

It’s rare to have an iPhone or iPod touch App as our main feature; they’re usually too short to have a full review, and many semi-hardcore gamers don’t show much interest for casual games.

But this title deserves it. Ho Ho Ho Yellow Snow.

But it’s not just any snowmen that Santa has to take care of; they’re zombie snowmen.

We always love creative ideas; especially when they involve zombies and Santa with an overly full bladder.

One great thing about puzzle games is that you can just pick it up and go. For the most part, puzzle games don’t have an element of progress(except for a select few like Puzzle Quest), and so you can pick it up, play a for a few minutes, and if you need to quit, no harm done. And they are rediculously addicting; at least the good ones are. Orbital is one such game.

A free lite version of Orbital, ”the definitive 1-thumb experience”, was released today. The lite version only allows for a maximum of 15 points in single player, but has unlimited multiplayer play on one phone. Their explanation for this decision to give unlimited multiplayer being: “We’ve chosen to offer the free version of Orbital because of lessons learned from cigarette companies and crack-slingin’ corner boys. If you give the customer a taste, they will come back for more.”

See? There’s a lesson to be learned everywhere in life.

Recently, the iPhone/iPod Touch have exploding with games. It started out as fairly simple games to kill time, like Spot the Difference! or Peggle. But we have today a game that involves a bit more dedication than the amount of time it takes to go through a McDonald’s drive through at lunch.

Judgement Day War, a real-time strategy game developed by Gaijin Entertainment, is now available on the AppStore. Bringing desert warfare to the iPhone/iPod Touch, Judgement Day War puts you in command of troops and war machines including tanks and helicopters, and additional bonuses such as reinforcements, communication interception and air strikes.

This handheld badboy includes:

• 33 special missions set in three historical campaigns in the Middle East
• Endless Survival Mode – battle with a virtually endless number of randomly generated missions that increase in difficulty
• More than 20 strategic skills can be upgraded along the way, readying the forces for each new challenge.
• Intuitive controls that let players focux on battle plans and strategic thinking.
• Global leaderboard lets players see where they rank in both Campaign and Endless Survival modes.

It sounds like this isn’t the usual pick up and go games you find on a mobile devices; this almost sounds like a full blown game! I have a feeling this will be one of the first of many fully developed games coming out for the iPhone/iPod Touch.

If you own an iPhone or iPod Touch, and are a shooter fan, this maybe bittersweet news.

DotEmu, a developer and publisher dedicated to porting over 80’s/90’s games to new platforms, anounced today they’ll be porting R-Type, the legendary side-scrolling shooter to the iPhone/iPod Touch. This badboy will be hitting the AppStore in the next few months. There have been no pictures or videos released yet, but for more information, visit their site here.

I say bittersweet, because of the controls. Now I don’t personally own an iPhone or iPod, but it’s difficult for me to imagine playing a game like R-Type, where precision is key and the slightest error can screw everything up, on a touch screen, without a stylus. But who knows, maybe those who own iPhones or iPod touches have learned to adapt and developed superhuman touch screen desterity. Xavier Liard, CEO of DotEmu assures us that it’ll work out:

“We are very pleased to work on R-Type and to start our collaboration with Irem Software Engineering Inc.(owner of R-Type). Our main goal is to make the best touch version possible of this great game to seduce both fans and new players. This is really a great game and we are eager to release it!”

Let’s see how this one plays out.

One of the simplest games stimulates your eyes with pretty pictures. All you have to do is spot the difference, and touch. Such a game for only $0.99.

Yes, we’re talking about Spot the Difference! for iPhone and iPod touch.

This game isn’t something for hardcore gamers who like spending hours on their iPhone or iPod touch, but rather for casual or even non-gamers to kill time while waiting for your driver’s license renewal or something. Or maybe even for restroom gaming.

The downside we noticed is that it’s fun while it lasts; there’s no replay value to the game. We wish there were maybe weekly updates of some kind to keep us busy with the game. And another one we can point out is that the players can cheat if they wanted to. The penalty for a wrongful touch (yes, we said it) is a buzz with shaking screen, which isn’t enough for cheaters to just touch whatever on the screen to finish the level.

But even with those odds, the game is fun. Spot the Difference! comes with many pretty pictures for your eyes, and honestly who would spend money so you can just cheat away through a short game? Not many, for sure.

Any break you take, big or small, Spot the Difference! will help you to pass the time a bit quicker.

Soccer. Zombies.

You just throw and mix anything with zombies and you get a video game idea.

Here’s the feature list:

I was QUITE thrilled to hear about this one. A new Ghosts’N Goblins! Although I initially thought it was going to be a condensed version of the PSP version, this addition to the series provides a whole new experience for gamers, including the ability to play as a second character! Now you can slay demons and rescue maidens i-style.

The only concern I have with this is the control scheme. I haven’t really played an action oriented game on the iPhone or the iPod. I guess we’ll just have to find out. But the feature list looks sweet. Check it out:
