Dungeon Blitz

Posted on 29 March 2012 by mitsu

Dungeon Blitz- a free-to-play, side-scrolling brawler with light RPG and MMO elements – has been launched by Blue Mammoth Games.

The start-up’s founders, both with deep experience developing AAA titles for hardcore gamers, set out to create a game that offers players a full featured, multiplayer game challenge, even if they only have a few minutes to play.

Dungeon Blitz combines the fast paced combat of side-scrollers with the character development and customization of RPGs and the social interaction and cooperative combat of MMOs. New players can immediately jump into the action and play a full game session in as little as 10 minutes.

Dungeon Blitz’s combat system is extremely easy to learn with simple point-and-click controls; no tedious menu driven combat here. Players unleash physical and arcane abilities while actively moving and dodging enemy attacks in real time. Players can also join together to combine abilities from different classes to create even more powerful attacks.

Players choose from three classes, each with their own play styles:

  • Paladin (stalwart strength)
  • Rogue (swift, deadly attacks)
  • Mage (mastery of the elements)

Players upgrade their abilities, gain new powers and take on greater challenges through leveling up, collecting loot and crafting.

While the game can be played solo, Dungeon Blitz really shines when friends gather to party. Gamers can quickly team with other random players or use the in-game communication and guild features to easily organize a few spare minutes of play with buddies.

“Talking with friends, we realized there are tons of guys like us who used to be hardcore MMO players but just don’t have the time anymore. Our goal was to create a fun, light, but still challenging title that would let us get together with friends as well as get an online fix — but to do it in bite-sized chunks,” Lincoln Hamilton, Founder, Blue Mammoth Games, explains. “By taking advantage of the browser environment, we’ve created a new twist on side-scrollers with a mash up of the best features from brawlers, RPGs and MMOs.”

Dungeon Blitz is set at the crossroads between the mundane Human World and the mystical Sleeping Lands. The free-to-play game features optional micro transactions that can be used to purchase in-game items and boosts.

As a non-fan of MMOs, but a huge fan of side-scrollers, I’m excited to dive in and see if I can jump on the MMO bandwagon and experience a bit of what my other MMO friends are raging about.  The trailer definitely piqued my interest.

Dungeon Blitz is now available at http://www.dungeonblitz.com.

PAX 2010 – Vindictus hands-on

Posted on 04 September 2010 by ClassicMoments

We’re excited. Why?
We think we’ve just found an awesome game that we can fall in love with, for a long time to come.

When we fist saw the game screenshots, we didn’t give much attention to it. It looked pretty, but that’s as far as we knew. After a meeting with Nexon however, we were just glad that we started off the first day of PAX 2010 with Vindictus.

If you read the specs of the game, you’ll see that Vindictus offeres plenty of elements that many hardcore gamers would appreciate. Vindictus is beautifully rendered with modified Source Engine, enabling an awesome physics engine where things can be destroyed as you might expect in a real world. This story-driven game is based on Celtic mythology.

But our gameplay experience uncovers more than that. Fast-paced, combo-packed action RPG elements with support of gamepad controllers encourages traditional PC gamers as well as the console gamers. Though character customization (stats and cosmetic) and controls can go as deep as any hardcore gamers would wanted, it’s not hard to master the combos at all.

Vindictus provides characters rather than the jobs and classes. There are still skill trees for players to mess around with, and deep character customization + the armor crafting system can easily differentiate the looks among players. How deep is the character customization? With the help of physics engine and crafting system, the armors can actually be destoryed, and the characters will be left with their underwear. And yes, you can even customize your underwear. If you want more customization than that, you need help.

One of the best parts is that Vindictus is FREE-TO-PLAY. Yes, we’re not joking. Nexon is famous for their free-to-play games (remember our last year’s coverage of Nexon?), and with Vindictus, they’ve just raised the bar for the available free-to-play market in the U.S.

Easy to control, hack-and-slash fun with an in-depth game system of MMORPG, we truly couldn’t find any faults with Vindictus. Yes, it’s still in its early beta stage, and we might have to play for days or weeks to get the whole idea of the game, but we can’t stop expressing our love towards Vindictus.

We’ll be giving out access keys for the upcoming open beta of Vindictus. It’ll begin on September 15, 2010 so make sure to be here when we give out those keys. In the meantime, check out the official Vindictus website for more information.

If you’ve experienced free-to-play MMORPGs, you’ve probably heard of Nexon by now. Yeah, the publisher with all the free-to-play games which killed countless hours of your time.

This very ambitious game publisher is announcing another game called Vindictus, and its official website has been launched. Looks like this game is in closed-beta, and will also be free-to-play as well. We’ll let you see the screenshots before giving you the website address.

Not bad at all for a free online game, yes?
Okay, enough with the tease. Here’s the official website address: http://www.vindictus.com/

The game is still in closed-beta, but Nexon is planning to do a beta-key giveaway. You can visit Vindictus Facebook page and ask for it.
