I was talking to a friend the other day, about how games now days seem easy. They may be way more story driven, innovative, pretty, what have you, but recent games seem to lack the hardcore, seemingly-impossible difficulty level that they used to have, back in the days of side-scrollers. As you may know from a previous article, whenever a side-scroller comes up, I get super excited, and we have one righ here from Shorfuse Games.
Short fuse Games, the Swedish developer and digital publisher of the well-received Xbox LIVE Indie Games title Colosseum, today announced their next title in development is the dark, gory, combat focused Alive & Undead.
“Alive & Undead is a brutal, uncensored vampire quest sprinkled with cliches of both side-scrolling beat-em-ups and subculture phenomena,” said Johan Hermeren, president of Shortfuse Games.
The story of A&U goes that Mr. Smith, an Elvis impersonator turned vampire, is out to destroy the one who turned him into a vampire. Oh, and I forgot to mention that Mr. Smith ended up killing his entire family because of his “unquenchable vamipre bloodlust.” Pretty fair reason for a quest. He seeks the help of Welson, a femme-fatale witch hunter. Together, armed to the teeth with over-the-top arsenal, they battle hoards of undead and other frightening monsters as they progress through their ”fantastically violent” quest . Sounds like we got us a good’ol side-scroller; easy on the story, heavy on the gory.
Allowing you to choose between Mr. Smith and Welson, A&U is a classic side-scrolling 2-player brawler, with modern elements incorporated, such as juggling enemies in the air and devastating co-op attacks. The game is apparently ”cocky, uncensored, brutal and kick-ass.”
As I was reading up on the press release, it really reminded me of a little movie called From Dusk til Dawn. Anybody? It’s a cute little film starring actors like George Clooney, Salma Hayek, Cheech Marin and also has Quentin Tarantino. (i liked it, but don’t bother with the second and third one) Silly story, almost cartoonishly violent action, and of course, vampires. It’s got it all.
I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how this badboy develops!
Alive & Undead is planned for releas on the PSN in the fall 2010
