REVIEW – Exo-Flex Skins for Gaming Systems

Posted on 2009.07.28 by ClassicMoments

It may not seem like it, but we do receive quite a number of products for review, and therefore, our editors have to often squeeze every second of our limited timeline to come up with an article that can back up our words. We have to make sure that the product doesn’t come with empty promises that could disappoint our readers at the time of purchase. And often times we do have results that disappoint our editors before the product reaches to our readers and consumers.

And that’s why this review can be a bit special. After we reviewed the products from the Exo-Flex, the company who specializes in customized skins for the gaming systems, we have nothing bad to say about their products. It feels good to know that there are companies that delivers what they promise, and for that we are excited.

Exo-Flex is a company that designs and creates custom skins for almost every digital entertainment gadget you can think of; from Laptops to BlackBerrys. We’ve received samples for two gaming systems, the PS3 and the Xbox 360.

Before we received the skins, we were skeptical because they’re products don’t cater to the gaming experience, but more so to the exterior design of your system. But after receiving the skins, we were all greedy to get the best design we thought there was. This shows that to a certain degree, people want a unique way to express themselves with a design they like. It also explains why people pay extra money just for the special editions of gadgets, gaming systems and games even though the inside technology works exactly the same way with the same specifications. No longer are gaming consoles electronic devices that just sit anywhere in the living room; many people actually consider the colors of TV, gaming systems, audio amplifier and speakers when they buy living room furnitures. And with the right skins from Exo-Flex, it will only help you to decorate your living room or gaming room as you like.

Before we praise Exo-Flex eve more and start our own cult and make a religion out of it, we must tell you that not every design is eye candy for everyone. We have received a skin called “The Vending Machine” for the PS3 system, which looks alright though it may be a very colorful addition to the sophisticated look of the piano black PS3. Though the design was cute, many would probably agree that it wouldn’t go too well with black TV furniture.

Then, there’s the design that adds vibrancy with very nice colors to the Xbox 360. It’s called “No Fishing”.

The thing about visuals and designs is that people have different taste, and for that, Exo-Flex came up with 30+ to 40+ different designs for you to choose from. The range varies from simple to complex, from cute to deep with solid colors. Make sure you check out all of the skins before you make a decision.

We’re satisfied with the variety of designs for us to pick, but that’s that’s not the only reason why we’re so into it. These skins may change the look of your favorite systems, but it can also protect the system without you even knowing. With their “Snakeskin” technology, these skins are free from smearing, no bubbles (means no squeegee needed), and is equipped with three layers of protection with a water-resistant layer on the top. Our editors actually tried to tear these skins from the left-overs and have yet to succeed. Every skins come with “Lifetime Exo-tended Warranty” and we can really see why. When we installed the skin on the PS3, we could see the bubbles here and there, but with a simple sweep with the palm of our hand, bubbles were gone. We have no idea how it’s possible, but it just is.

Another feature that we loved is the “No Residue” of the skin. We installed a left-over skin to an object with a plastic surface, and left it in the car for about 24 hours. The next morning, we removed the skin from the plastic surface, and the spot where the skin was had no sticky residue whatsoever. It was plastic-smooth. We just couldn’t believe how well it sticks without leaving the adhesive residue on the surface.

“Triple R” Features (Removable, Repositionable and can be Reapplied) is also a very handy feature. If you have a shaky hand like our Editorial Director (that’s me), the chances are you won’t skin it in one single try. But Exo-Flex skins can be removed as many times as it needs to be and then can be reapplied without losing adhesiveness over time, and leaving no residue. We literally applied and reapplied it for about 12 times on our PS3 without any problem. Obviously, if the skin collects too much dust on the adhesive side, it mays lose some of its adhesion, but reapplying it for more than 10 times without any negative effect is more than what we can ask for. Here are some some of the pictures we took with our consoles:

We don’t know if we can give scores to products that involves design. Many people have many different measurements for deciding what looks good or bad. But if we were to base our review solely on the technology and features of Exo-Flex skins, we cannot give anything less than a perfect score because you just can’t find any flaws. It does what it supposed to do, and goes further than expected with extra features like Snakeskin, Triple R and lifetime warranty. The area we haven’t touched yet would be the customer service, but we never had a chance to deal with them, so unless we come across one in the future, we can’t say anything nice or bad about them. With all these features, we can’t think of anything else or more to ask for.

We strongly recommend you to check out Exo-Flex skins if you’re thinking about pimping the exteriors to your gadgets and consoles. Go show some skins.

Our Score: 10 / 10

For pimping your gadgets or systems, it doesn’t get any better than this.
